Blue is Green
BarkerBlue is all about helping our clients make a big impact in the marketplace - without making a big impact on the environment. Few companies in the digital imaging and printing business are as invested in sustainability as BarkerBlue. Reduced energy usage, renewable power sources, reduced paper waste, electronic archiving, eco-friendly inks - we have reexamined every aspect of our business to find ways to reduce our footprint. And we've been recognized for it. Check out what we've done:Solar Panels: We have installed a 155.0 kW DC rated solar array, consisting of 654 Sanyo 200HIT Hybrid solar modules, which covers the entire building. The system can generate more than 272,000 kilowatt hours each year of clean, renewable power, which will provide 80-85% of the energy needed to power our facility.
Recycled Paper: With the exception of a few exotic stocks not available in a recycled format, all paper used for general reproduction purposes will have at least 30% PCC.
Recycling: BarkerBlue recycles all scrap paper generated in the production process, as well as electronic equipment that is replaced.
Reduced Consumption: Our renovated facility has motion sensor lighting. When rooms are not occupied the lights automatically turn off. We have installed low voltage fluorescent bulbs throughout the facility as well as new low-flow toilets and faucet aerators to conserve water.
Latex ink: Wherever possible, we use HP Latex Ink. It's cleaner, more durable and has less impact than conventional inks.
Digital efficiency: Digital printing cuts down on the use of chemicals and resulting waste. The ability to print only as much as you need when you need it saves tons of paper - and trees.
Green Business Certification: BarkerBlue has been certified as a Green Business by San Mateo County.
Green Business Award: For our efforts to fight climate change, BarkerBlue received the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce 2008 Green Business Award.
Environmental Leadership Award: BarkerBlue received the Environmental Leadership Award from California State Assemblyman, Jerry Hill. The award recognizes companies in the California 19th Congressional District that demonstrate their advancement of green practices in their business as well as good corporate citizenship. BarkerBlue is the only Bay Area reprographic company to have received this award.
